The Garnet Ring

The Garnet Ring was born after finding this beautiful Namibian Garnet at a trade show.  The strong color, its organic shape, and the contrast between the polished top and the rough bottom, reminded me of ancient times and how much history is embedded within this crystal. Utilizing the lost wax casting technique, the setting (modeled in wax around the gem) contains prongs serving as thorns, holding the stone together with the ring shank.

Garnet is January's Birthstone. This one in particular has a purple hue, which makes it a Rhodolite Garnet.
