The Making Of: The Promise Ring

The Making Of: The Promise Ring

In this series leading up to the launch of FERTILE ASCENSION, my first gold and diamond collection, I will be discussing the initial 5-piece collection in detail, from how it was designed, to how it was made.

Next up is The Promise Ring. Whether it is used to symbolize a promise between two souls or a promise to yourself, this ring is perfect for the everyday wearer or for an alternative engagement ring.

My vision was for earthworm to wrap around the finger, in an infinite loop, without seeing the end or the beginning. To figure this out, I sketched this ring so many times that I almost got lost on a labyrinth of drawings.

I created several prototypes, in both metal and wax, just to get an idea on how to make it and how it will work. Organic pieces can be quite challenging when you want to 3D model.

The final sketch was brought up to life on CAD by a Andrea Rosales-Barcarcel.  After several revisions, the ring was here.

The .70 tcw Pear Shape DeBeers Code of Origin Diamond is truly spectacular, and I wanted to make sure it looked like a 1 carat diamond through the setting.

The setting and polishing was finalized in the Diamond District in NYC, with final texture and engraving done by me in my home studio.

This piece took about 6 months to make, from sketches to final piece.
